water, water everywhere

all this rain has got me thinking about water. and how i love to photograph waterscapes.

and i'm loving bringing these photos back from that weekend in October. i never took a lot of time to look at my photos, so it's like i'm seeing the fruits of my labor, several months later.

the course instructor suggested we take our photos in RAW. i hadn't done that before, and i haven't done it a lot since then (mostly because memory cards can only hold a couple hundred RAW photos vs. 1000 jpeg photos). but i think i just convinced myself to switch.

i pulled out this photo from George Childs Park in the Poconos. the workshop instructor had talked about white balance, and that 'auto' never really represented actual conditions, and that 'cloudy' usually looks better. so with a little love from Adobe Camera Raw (part of Photoshop), we get the second image.

SOOC
with a little love from ACR
now, that is some editing i can get behind for my nature photos. i don't feel like i did much except make it look more like it did that day. i think it still looks real, and it wasn't anything major. so perhaps RAW is for me!

don't get me wrong, i'm not saying the instructor or anyone who edits photos is wrong, and i'll still use some actions on my photos, but this just feels right for me.

PS: i can't wait for it to not be winter anymore. i want to see some green on the trees and flowers blooming! :)
