all this flooding has reminded me of one of the floods i have experienced. in june 2006, andy and i had just met, and we were unofficially dating, and we decided to go on a hike (to one of my favorite places in the world). we decided to hike, even though there was the threat of rain, and then it started raining very early into our hike. but we were committed to going up the mountain, see the view, and back down the other trail (the trail was eroding on our way back down the mountain).

pretty much we had no work to do, no groups in, living on our little hill-island near the Delaware River, which was topping over its banks, having the second 100-year flood in the past 2 years (they had a third one 10 months later).
we ventured down the hill to the river access point, and saw this:

(the floating trees are where the banks usually are, and this access point is usually elevated from the stream bank...)
this area was dry when we walked down to the river. this photo was taken less than 45 minutes after the first one. that's andy in the green shorts.
so we made it back up the hill just fine, but that was it. we were closed for the next 2-3 days because groups couldn't get to us because all the roads were closed. it was a good time.
(this is called "Puddle Surfing" and this is not Andy)
