stolen name

i know i haven't posted in a while, and there are clearly lots of things to post about, but i just needed to get this off my chest (because my husband thinks i'm crazy).

today's realization: i've reached the point in my life where i start to think "damn, she stole my baby name!"

now, this comes with some caveats. i'm not pissed if some random stranger, or even someone i was clearly once acquainted with (and therefore facebook friends with) uses one of my baby name ideas. but when it's in your family, it's a different situation.

case in point: andy's cousin had a baby yesterday. and they chose one of my baby name ideas (different spelling). his family is pretty close (they were pretty much raised as siblings). he says, "do you know how many steve's there are in my family?" (answer: yes, 3.) but they are in three generations, and one of them is a father/son. which makes that ALL totally acceptable.

i, however, cannot have a child with the same name as andy's cousin's child. they will probably only be a few years apart. they will be second cousins. yes, i have cousins who our second cousin shares the same name, but we don't see them all the time.

this will not be the same case. so that name option is out (but it's probably good that it is because i decided i loved it when i was dating a different guy than andy).

i have another name i like even more, that i will be CRUSHED if somebody takes. i feel like i need to stake a claim to it. but you almost don't want to say it because then somebody will be like "THAT'S AN AWESOME BABY NAME" and then they have a baby first and steal it.

thanks for letting me rant.

and in case you were wondering, stolen name: madeline. (andy's cousin spelled it madilyn)

somebody else, go ahead and use it. i sure can't. (please tell me i'm right on this?!)

  2. My Jeff named his first daughter Mia, and my cousin Jennifer (Jeff's older sister) named her second daughter Mina (pronounced Mean-a). Seriously, it gets confusing around Christmas.
Another one from our family - my Uncle Paul died when I was 11 or 12. He was the middle brother, between my mom and uncle Mike. This year, Mike got himself a dog, which he named Paul Thomas (my uncle's FULL NAME) so that "Paul would walk with him through the end of his life". W.T.F. Besides that you ruined the name Paul Thomas for any future generations, he's only 68 - unless that dog is going to live to be 15 years old, there is going to have to be a Paul 2... They almost got two dogs, the other would have been Margaret (Maggie). After my grandmother. Also the name of my future daughter.

  3. I don't blame you one bit! Baby names feel like our own long before we have babies to give them to. :)

But I think you'll be glad you don't have a Madeline - it's soooo popular! It's a pretty name though, so I don't blame you for loving it.

If you ever want to talk baby names, you just let me know. They're my guilty pleasure and I promise I won't steal your names. :)

Hope wedded life is treating you well!
